Green Onion Dip and Sandwich Spread

Green Onion Dip

Green Onion Dip

I love onion dip, who doesn’t? But the California dip made with onion soup mix is very salty, and frankly a bit tired. I created this variation which is full of onion flavor, a lot less sodium and is delicious. The dip mix can be made in advance and quickly stirred in sour cream a couple of hours before you are ready for dip. It also makes a wonderful sandwich spread.

Green Onion Dip Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dehydrated Onion
  • 2 tablespoons dehydrated Chives
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated Celery
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry Basil Leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry Dill Leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 Green Onions, finely diced
  • 2 cups Sour Cream or 1 cup Sour Cream and 1 cup Mayonnaise

Method

Mix all dry ingredients together and place in an air tight container until ready to use.

Using the Mix

Green Onion Dip
Mix dry mix into 1-1/2 cups of Sour Cream. I prefer it with just the sour cream but you may use 1-1/2 cup sour cream and 1/2 cup mayonnaise. (You can also sub with part yogurt) garnish with green onions and serve with corn chips or pita chips and vegetable sticks.

Green Onion Sandwich Spread
Mix dry mix into 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 1/2 cup whipped or softened cream cheese. Allow flavors to meld for a few hours. Use spread on sandwich in place of plain mayonnaise.
