Short post. As we approach the holidays it occurs to me a lot of people use Onion Soup Mix for various recipes. This is a good approximation of the packaged dip mix if you don’t have one of those little packets for a recipe? Mix up the following which is the equivalent of 1 packet. It’s also a lot less expensive!
Onion Soup Mix Recipe
Equivalent to 1 packet purchased mix
- 4 teaspoons Beef Bouillon Granules (I like Herb Ox)
- 8 teaspoons dehydrated Onion Flakes
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder or Granulated Onion
- 1/4 teaspoon White Pepper
Method
Mix all ingredients together and use immediately or store in an airtight container for up to six months.
Tips
Making your own dip mix will allow you to experiment a bit and find that mix that’s just right for you. I have changed the mix in many ways, based upon what I have on hand and my target goal or audience. For example, last year I had about 5 pounds of peeled garlic I couldn’t use so I sliced it up, placed it in my dehydrator and use it in place of the onions for a wonderful garlic dip!
