About Me

Favorite_of_Me

Welcome!

My name is Ron Rose and I have created this site to share my love of food, cooking and entertaining. In the past I was a professional chef working in the areas of hotel catering. I have cooked professionally and served crowds up to 500 people for table service and 1000 people for buffet service.

I stopped cooking professionally about 25 years ago and became a professional florist. Today, my great joy in life is to use my talents in the kitchen along with my love of entertaining to entertain guest in my home.

My wife Mia and I regularly share our home with a few people who nearly always ask for a recipe. As I never used recipes and create most of the food I cook uniquely for that event I really did not have many recipes ready to share.

A few years ago, my son went into junior high and started to show a bit of an interest in cooking and so I set out to create recipes for the foods my family and friends love. Now, my son is entering into his junior year of college and is cooking for himself but relies on the recipes and techniques I have created for him.

My recipes are a reflection of my culture, my love of food, my desire to create tasty things, both for the tummy and the soul, for the people I love. I do not claim to be an expert in any type of cuisine but I really embrace multi-cultural food experiences. I thrive on learning to cook the foods of other cultures in a manner which is comfortable to a US cook. For example, few people in the United States have a Tandoor Oven in their homes and I am one of them. Though I desire to place this traditional Indian oven in my yard I have at least been able to replicate the manner of cooking so as to satisfy most palettes as authentic. And if not authentic, at the very least a joy to eat!

I live in an area of California with a very high Latino population and so I grew up eating Mexican Cuisine. You will find many of my recipes are Mexican Ethnic food, Tex Mex, Oaxacan, Peruvian, Cuban and Puerto Rican and even fusions of those diverse, yet similar, Latin foods. As I continue to experience, experiment and evolve in my taste and seek to treat my guest with new plates I find the fusion of cuisines a fascinating and exhilarating experience. but I love food from many ethnicity’s and really love to fuse cuisines together to form new taste combinations.

I love food, I love to cook and I love to entertain but that doesn’t mean I want it to be difficult so you will find I have streamlined recipes, simplified techniques where I could, and have found ways to utilize the US kitchen to cook food from many, many cultures. Most cooks will find my recipes are very easy to follow.

Finally, I love to be present with those I have prepared a meal for and so I create an atmosphere which carries the meal. Music is matched to the mood and the menu, tableware supports the cuisine, wine accompanies the meal for as the Spanish say “eat when you drink and drink when you eat” and conversation follows. Please enjoy and check back often. I have hundreds of recipes and lots of friends. I will cook, photograph and upload new recipes as often as I can.

Finally, my blog is a reflection of my life and the things I love; people, conversation, relationship and food. My blog is not a professional, dietary or medical source. I eat this food, prepare it for people I love, and enjoy it, but have no idea the caloric or health values or if anyone else should eat it. Anything you find on this site is experienced at your own risk. I have only created it for its entertainment value.

¡Bon Apetito!  — Bon Apetit !
